Named after the 140-year old Blue Gum tree that grows on our front lawn, the estate is both a working farm dating back to 1839 and a private, family-run guest house. We pride ourselves on offering visitors a unique experience in a welcoming environment. We also place great value in our staff, as a result you’ll find that everyone is actively responsible for making your stay memorable. We want you to feel like you’re in a private home – but with no obligation to your hosts. And as our guest, we’ll make sure you’re taken care of, down to the last detail.

Experience a working farm
Long before the first title deed to Blue Gum farm was granted, this part of the Overberg was home to the Khoisan, groups of nomadic hunter gatherers who roamed the surrounding mountains and picturesque coastline. Traditionally, Blue Gum was a vegetable and small stock farm, and as such has produced everything from artichokes to sunflowers, and pigs to sheep.
Today Blue Gum is being established as a wine farm with three hectares of Shiraz grapes under cultivation and and a further seven hectares of Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot planned. We also farm olives over two hectares. The estate extends up the Klein Rivier Mountain directly behind the guest house and we encourage you to explore the estate and discover the many diverse flora and fauna that share our environment with us. Not to mention the more than 100 bird species spotted to date. For those less energetically inclined, join us for a sundowner at the Boma patio bar adjacent to the main lounge where the views are spectacular, the sounds magical and the memories unforgettable.

Whether you stay in the old Manor House suites, the more private Mountain View Cottages or our Blue Gum Family Rooms, you’ll discover a tranquil retreat that offers something for everyone from honeymoon couples to solo travellers and large family groups. With this in mind we have two restaurants on the estate: BARKE caters for families and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner; while our more formal option The Blue Gum Restaurant is open for dinner, and caters to adults only. Breakfast is included in the room rate. We also have experienced babysitters, who need to be booked in advance at an additional cost.
